Our good friend Jerry over at Grumpy’s Grumblings has another post that I’d like to share with you. Before I get to that though, I want to let all of you know that I’ve been sort of off the grid for a while. I’ve been doing some part-time work, officially retiring from the “semi-retired” status I’ve been in for the past nearly 6 years.

Unfortunately, it’s been a bit of a challenge tending to this blog. I’m going to do my best to get back to it, though. We’ve got a tough few months ahead and an important — no, make that, incredibly important, election ahead of us. We simply must not let the GOP retake any lever of power in this midterm election. The stakes are simply too high. The fascistic direction they’ve decided to take, led by the disgraced former president, portends a future where democracy’s survival in this country is at grave risk were they to retain power. Let’s not let that happen!

So, on to the subject at hand, which is Jerry’s new post. If you’re new to this space, Jerry is a lifelong evangelical Christian who has decided the party he once belonged to, the GOP, is no longer a viable political party. Once they decided to blindly and loyally stick by the “messiah” Trump, he could not stay silent any longer. Jerry’s written several posts for us here, and I’d highly recommend you check them out. I share his posts because what he says must be amplified — shouted from the mountaintop, if you will. His former friends and brethren must hear what they do not want to hear: Their “messiah” is nothing but a two-bit criminal and demagogue, who only wants back in power so that he can feed his massive narcissistic ego, and make millions in the process.

Jerry’s new piece gives us insight into the kind of folks who continue to worship the disgraced former president, as only he can. Here is an excerpt from it. I’ve included a link at the end to continue reading over at his site. Thanks, Jerry!

“For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.” – Matthew 24:24

For decades, I believed, like most white evangelicals, that the above Bible verse—and many others like it—referred to liberal Christians. They are, I believed, the ones who will be deceived by false prophets. I was wrong. So, who are these “elect” who will be misled by false Christs and false prophets? They are the folks I lived beside, worshiped with, learned from, and taught. They are the white evangelicals who proudly proclaim their righteousness and decry the sinfulness of anyone outside their homogenous circle.

The Real They

They are the MAGA folks promoting Christian nationalism. They are the believers who are certain they are the sheep who truly follow the Messiah while liberal believers are the goats. They are the crazies who now openly proclaim that Donald J. Trump is the new messiah.

For years now, I have referred to Trump as white evangelicals’ new messiah. I suspect many thought I was exaggerating. But there is no longer any room for doubt. A new book by Helgard Muller openly and unashamedly bears the title President Donald John Trump, the Son of Man, the Christ. Meanwhile, Pastor Johnny Enlow declares that human history should no longer be referred to as BC and AD. That division should be replaced by BT (Before Trump) and AT (After Trump). Enlow also claims God told him that Trump is—not will be, but already is—President of the entire world.

In previous posts I detailed how these bizarre beliefs came about, so I won’t cover that here. (If you’d like to read more about the evolution of these blasphemous beliefs, see “The Rotten Core of Christian Nationalism,” “Nothing Will Tarnish the Messiah’s Crown,” Trumpism Is Not Over,” and “Prepare Ye the Way of the Theocrat.”)

  1. This is how, those with the, fascist beliefs, sway their, followers, because, the one who followed their leaders turned their judgment and senses off, that is how, those “in power” are able to, take that “flock”, down that cliff… because the followers don’t have their own, judgement sense, and just, followed their, “leaders”, around.

  2. The only thing that will end this is the slow curve of attrition through death of these deranged brainwashed people. And there are many. Christianity has always promoted hate, killing, judgement and arrogance. For that reason alone, I want no part of it. Look who it has attracted to this abomination called trump. Tells the whole story to me.

    1. I’ve always been floored, Mary, with how so many people who call themselves Christians, have been duped by him. I’ll never understand it and it reflects how utterly uneducated and naive so many Americans are.

  4. While I would not want, in any way, to discredit Jerry and/or his faith, I personally do not feel the bible –and its highly debatable predictions– have anything to do with what’s going on with Trump and/or his followers.

Of course the religious (nuts) will put their spin on it because, well, because that’s what they do. But for those who are NOT religious, it’s pretty much all a bunch of poppycock.

    1. And let’s face it Nan. Much of it is based on racism and preserving the white majority and male dominance in society. Sad, but true.

      1. Speaking of male dominance, did you see my latest post about prison time for women who have an abortion? SMH

    2. Conservative Christians are a self-selected group of very gullible people. Yes, there are exceptions, and Jerry does not seem to be one of the gullible.

Trump takes a predatory view of gullible people. He found conservative Christians to be ripe for plucking.

      1. He does what con men do. And, quite frankly, it’s what he does best. The only thing, in my view
