I know — many folks will talk about the Constitution and how it says presidents can only serve two consecutive terms, or two total. But that was before our country was hijacked by the most criminally corrupt president in the history of our nation. Oh, and not to mention, a United States Supreme Court that handed down a decision effectively giving him blanket immunity to do whatever the hell he wants.

The recent demolishing of the East Wing of the White House to make way for his $350 million vanity ballroom puts it all in context and wraps it up with a nice big bow. You may choose to ignore everything that’s happened in the roughly ten months since the inauguration — but I will not. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. I feel it in my gut.

This is so much different than his first term. Back then, he actually had people in his administration who gave a damn — not everyone, mind you, but at least a few, like Joint Chiefs Chairman General Mark Milley and Defense Secretaries James Mattis and Mark Esper. They cared about the Constitution. They knew what a lunatic and unhinged person their boss was and tried mightily to rein him in the best they could.

But now? He has the kind of loyal sycophants that would make his good buddy Vladimir Putin blush with pride. Who’s going to stop him? Could it be Secretary of State “Little” Marco Rubio? Perhaps “Crazy Eyes” Kash Patel, the most unqualified FBI Director in history? Or maybe “Whiskey Pete” Hegseth, who can also claim the title of being the most unqualified Defense Secretary in history?

To be honest, most of his cabinet could claim “most unqualified” in their respective positions. And it’s by design. It’s not expertise or intelligence he covets. It’s obvious that the only criterion for serving in his second term was loyalty. I can envision the questionnaire looking something like this:

  • How loyal will you be to President Trump?
  • How often will you kiss his ass in public?
  • Will you carry out any order the president gives you, no matter the legality?
  • Will you lie as often as the president wants you to?
  • Will you swear your allegiance to the president by placing your hand on a Trump Bible?
  • Will you praise him at will, especially at our Kim Jong Un–style cabinet meetings, which will be broadcast on all the networks?

His cabinet demonstrates on a daily basis that the answers to all those hypothetical questions would be an unqualified yes.

So when the 47th president decides to tear down a historic wing of the White House without congressional approval or proper submission of plans to the various historical preservation agencies, the collective shrug from his cabinet is palpable.

We were told by right-wing media that President Barack Obama installed a basketball court. Surely it’s the same thing, right? Nothing to see here. The current president is merely doing what others have done in the past. And they say this with a straight face, mind you.

The sad thing is, millions of people in this country don’t give a damn. Either they aren’t paying attention, or they’re stuck in MAGA la-la land and are incapable of seeing the daily destruction of our republic. It’s probably a little of both. If you watch Fox News and other Trump outlets, his actions are portrayed as perfectly normal — and if it upsets the libs, even better. In fact, that seems to be the most important objective of today’s GOP and MAGA sycophants. “Liberal tears” are what they crave, and their president is the one guy who can deliver them.

We’ve now seen him militarize Democratic blue cities. We’ve seen him go after his political enemies. We’ve seen him unleash ICE agents throughout the country, terrorizing people of color and their families. MAGA Land loves the optics of crying children being torn from their parents. I’ve seen responses on social media that basically say, “Yep, that’s what I voted for.”

There are many more examples — too many, unfortunately. Again, the destruction of the East Wing is much more than a middle finger to the American people. What it really says is this: I will do as I please, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. When you have a complicit political party that refuses to conduct any oversight whatsoever, the dictator can and will do what he wants. Combine that with a cabinet that swears allegiance to him and not the Constitution, and we are, sadly, on the precipice of losing it all.

Soon, the Donald J. Trump Ballroom for America will sprout up in all its ugly glory. Gold will ooze from the ceilings and the walls. Perhaps there will be a gold-inspired waterfall somewhere. This will complement the Mar-a-Lago–inspired patio, concocted and installed by bulldozing former First Lady Jackie Kennedy’s famed Rose Garden. Of course it was.

I was in Washington, D.C., a month ago, and there it was: a monstrous banner of Trump placed next to Teddy Roosevelt on the Department of Labor building. I hear there might be more of those going up. When the dictator needs adulation, we must make sure his likeness is prominently featured throughout the capital city. Putin, Xi, and Kim must be impressed.

The Trumpification of America is in full bloom. Would it surprise anyone if he decided to gut the entire White House and turn it into a palace that would rival any in history? A palace with the Trump name engraved throughout, so that we can all worship his greatness for generations?

Let’s face it. The East Wing demolition is the perfect metaphor for what he’s doing to America. He’ll tear everything down if he can, leaving future generations to pick up whatever pieces might be left — and those pieces are dwindling by the minute.

Perhaps you’ve heard the term “scorched earth policy.” This guy is executing it so fast, so surgically, that the mainstream media can’t keep up. And shame on them, by the way. Their timidity during the Trump years is what’s gotten us here in the first place.

It’s possible that Mother Nature might intervene. After all, he’s 79 years old and not in the best of health. It might be our last hope — our only hope, perhaps. Given all that he has done, and all that will be done, do you honestly think he intends to leave in 2029?

Nope.

The real question is: What will the American people do about it? Sadly, I’m not hopeful.

  2. Thanks, Sherri! Nothing would surprise me. I know he can’t run. But I suspect he’ll try something nefarious. You know, declare a state of emergency or try to cancel the election. Who knows? Or, as I wrote, maybe mother nature will intervene? We can only hope!

  4. Great post. I’m Australian so the tRump nightmare doesn’t affect me personally, yet, but given that man’s affect on global trade and global alliances, I fear that it’s just a matter of time.

I think most of us are still in a state of disbelief. From Obana to…this? It just doesn’t seem possible. Yet it is. 😦
