Our friend Jerry over at Grumpy’s Grumblings has a post out that I’d like to share with you. Quite frankly, it’s terrifying. I’ll leave it at that and hope you will click on the link I’ve provided at the end of a brief excerpt below. Thanks Jerry!

As a child, did you ever play the game commonly known as “Which One Is Not Like the Others?” If so, it’s time for a bit of nostalgia. Please read the following six news headlines and try to determine which one is not like the others.

1. “Trump Loses Support of Half of GOP Voters, Poll Finds” – New York Times, 7/12/2022

2. “President Trump Losing Support From Republicans” – US News, 4/27/2021

3. “Trump Losing GOP Support for 2024 Run as Jan. 6 Hearings Unfold” – Newsweek, 7/22/2022

4. “Polls Show Trump Losing 2024 Support to DeSantis” – BusinessInsider, 9/21/2022

5. “Trump’s Support Among Republicans Is Slipping, Poll Finds” – Rolling Stone, 07/12/2022

6. “Is Trump Losing His Base? New Poll Suggests Otherwise” – Intelligencer, 01/25/2022

If you guessed number six, give yourself a medium-five—with your face between your hands and an Edvard Munch raised-brow, open-mouth scream of despondent terror conveying your rational comprehension of our nation’s dystopian future.

Trumpism is here to stay. For every MAGA supporter Donald Trump loses—and I’m convinced that number is statistically insignificant—he gains at least one to replace that deserter. Donald Trump retains his iron grip on the GOP, and the GOP is growing. Anyone who says otherwise is basing his or her assessment on wishful thinking or mistaken polling rather than on reality.

    1. Indeed, it is scary. But I think Jerry may well be right about this.

  1. Very good post and I commented over there this…

I think trump will win and the protest from progressives will be underwhelming and quickly squelched by police or the military.

The evangelists while growing some now and are more lunatic than ever, overall religion is waning. Younger generations far and wide, think it is bunk. Church attendance is down. So it could be awhile before sanity returns and much damage can be done in the meantime. A oppressed people will eventually rebel against religious or any totalitarianism society. But most of us older people won’t see it, as we will be dead.

The thing is, climate change may make it all a moot point and I really think the ultimate goal, even beyond religion, is to drastically thin out the population and leave what’s left to the wealthy and people in power. They want to get rid of us trash one way or another. Through lack of healthcare and any assistance programs, social security, Medicare, food assistance etc. the masses will slowly die off and they will be le

    1. I think you’re spot on Mary. For eg, why would prominent Republicans run on gutting those programs? How many people in this country think that’s a great idea? Obviously the big wigs are all for it. And the bigots and racists who hate seeing people of color getting “handouts.” Maybe it’s what you say. The rich just don’t have enough. They want more and more, and the hell with everyone else. What a said commentary about this country.

  3. Not the scenario I’d like to imagine, but quite possibly one that is more predictive than the ones I would like. Sigh. Good share, Jeff … thanks.

  4. Having been a part of the “religious world” ( Pentecostal ) at one time and being especially interested in the parts of the bible where it talks about the Anti-Christ, IMO, this comment of Jerry’s is spot-on …

“I know that they have unreservedly crowned Donald J. Trump as God’s vice-regent, ruler of earth in God’s stead.”

This isn’t the place for me to expand and expound on this, but suffice it to say that from my studies and research, the Christians that have crowned this man are going to be in for a VERY big surprise.

Of course, this is all based on BIBLE prophecy and as most of us know, the contents of that book are suspect. 😈

  5. What we’ve learned is that Trump is a symptom, not the disease. He was the perfect storm, but if it wasn’t him it was going to be someone else. Trump will not run in 2024. This is whitey’s last stand; I can’t be sure of the timeline, or what America will look like in the future, but it is likely that it will continue to be shaped by big business. Divide and conquer. The Walmart, Amazon and Elon Musk machine is stoking the fires and snickering in the background.

    1. Well, there are reports that he will announce a run shortly after this election. My feeling is that the longer he’s around, the threats to our democracy will only get worse. Let’s face it, I’d put nearly all the blame on him for our present situation. We’ve never had someone declare an election is rigged, even before any votes were cast. And now we’re teetering so very close to the edge of the abyss. I’m not hopeful.

      1. Agree he’s was the catalyst, and deserves most of the blame, but he knew his audience. It’s the existence of that large audience that scares the shit out of me.

  7. If Trump dies, or goes to prison or fades into the distance, then someone like Desantis or Bobert or M.T. Greene pops up in his place, have we gained anything?

    1. No, we haven’t. I keep waiting for a turning point. A point where the GOP relegates those folks into irrelevance. Sadly, the cat is out of the bag and there may well be no turning back.
