Our good friend Jerry over at Grumpy’s Grumblings has a new short post out today and I will let his words speak for themselves. I’ve provided a link at the end to continue reading. Thanks Jerry!

Edmund Burke never said, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” No one seems to know where the phrase truly was birthed. But over the last several decades, the adage and accompanying misattribution have gained incontestable common currency.

So, with my respect offered to whoever actually did coin the phrase, I say, “Amen—sort of.” I equivocate because I wonder how “good” a person can be who does nothing while the world around him goes to hell in a handbasket. A fiddle, properly tuned to the times—ours no less than Emperor Nero’s—should play only dirges as our culture is lit afire by a pseudo-messiah and his ignorantly gullible followers. In a time such as this, any other genre would be rhythmic blasphemy.

    Read it and posted this over there.

    Good post.I agree, but..I do think part of the apathy is a feeling there is nothing the little guy can do. We cannot control the mega corporations and the powerful right wing fully funded groups that want this demise. And more than that, we see time and again trump and his republican cohorts going along with him and they surely know he is insane and dangerous, all because they want to keep power. The little guy cannot fight them and these congressmen and businessmen are not, nor ever will be held accountable. And we know we would be for any similar acts. They have made a farce of laws and our constitution and any thought that they work for the people. But while, yes we can vote, but this is being squelched and no one stops it. What has Biden done? Or more what can he really do?
    So we little people that can do nothing, realize the danger, but we also must try to live and enjoy what time we have left with our families and time in general with climate change. I believe it is short. Man is inherently self destructive and short sighted and almost half the country has been irrevocably brainwashed. So apathy just becomes trying to live a peaceful life and enjoy what you can and reduce the stress levels of life in a world gone mad.

      All good points Mary. The disintegration of our collective intelligence continues. Social media has played a major role in this, in my view. We all gravitate towards what we want to hear, not what the truth is. At least some of us do, that is. I’ve always paid attention to politics, even as a young kid. There were times in my life where I wasn’t dialed in as much. But mostly, I’m all in. With so many news sources nowadays, it’s tough to get the real truth. But, I try. My little portion of the universe on this blog at least allows me to participate and perhaps change a few minds. At the very least, it allows me to vent my frustration. That’s cathartic!

    Jerry made a most salient point there.
    I sent him by ‘5 cents worth’ using the ‘Snowflake’ analogy.
    As regard Burke the correct quote may be:
    “When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall, one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.” …which is more chilling

    As for the Apathy factor, I fear that is of no use to those who rely on it:
    Let us recall Friedrich Gustav Emil Martin Niemöller’s commentary in relation to Nazi Germany:
    “First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
    Because I was not a socialist.
    Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
    Because I was not a trade unionist.
    Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
    Because I was not a Jew.
    Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me. “

      I’ve heard and/or seen that quote from Martin before Roger. It still resonates today, as we see playing out as we speak. What, losing democracy? Who cares, gas is 4.00/gal!!!! That’s the mentality these days Roger. One day, it’s going to be too late. We may already be there.

        You can read it as follows….
        Basically there are those who set out to impose their will by violent means and yet are destined to lose any gains because the door of violence swings both ways.
        There are those who are considered passive and weak by the violent ones. But they are mistaken because those are ones who have learnt to mostly control those passions….up to a certain point. When that point is passed the results are terrible to behold.
        And those who sit lamenting in the ashes and rubble be they physical or social are the ones who started it.
        How long an episode of the tragedy is played out is hard to say. Woe to those who start.

        Considering a number of them claim to be Christians while waving guns, they seemed to have overlooked:
        Matthew 26:52
        “Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword”

        Indeed. That one always baffles me. I never saw the link between ‘Christians’ and gun ownership. Just another one of the hypocritical actions of the right Roger. I can’t keep up anymore!

        They’ll throw all sorts of out-of-context biblical extracts at you and try and explain ‘Justifiable Wars’*
        *You can throw them here by saying ‘Ah the Jus belli justi… Tell me, do you adhere to Saint Augustine’s notion or those teachings of Saint Thomas Aquinas, and how do you feel the views of The School of Salamanca impacted?’
        Naturally some short neck will chuckle and say ‘Don’ matter none as long as I kun draw a bead on ’em’ . and make rifle aiming motions.
        The response here being ‘That didn’t work out so well for Germany in 1945 did it now?’
        Those who start very often never get to finish it.
