Our friend Jerry over at Grumpy’s Grumblings has a big announcement today. The book he’s been working on for several months, is finally finished. I want to officially offer my congratulations to him for getting it done. His voice, unfortunately, is like a lone howling wolf in the wilderness, especially as it relates to the evangelical community. Indeed, those folks are a tough nut to crack. As he so often has pointed out here in this space, on our blog, they’re like a bunch of sheep in a herd. Critical thinking is discouraged. Dissent is a quashed, quickly and forcefully.

That’s why his courage to speak out must be amplified and spread as often as possible. And if I can help him in that endeavor, I’m honored to do so whenever I can. Here is a small excerpt from his announcement. Please click on the link at the end to get more details on how you can order the book. Thanks so much Jerry, and good luck!

Officially titled End This Wicked Marriage: Why Evangelical Christianity Needs to Divorce Itself from the Republican Party, the book argues that “church and state have become too intimately connected and, for the good of the nation, need to be divorced. Ideally, the divorce should be amicable, and the two should find ways to continue communicating and cooperating. But they should never again become as intimately connected as they have become recently, as a huge faction of white evangelicals have sought to establish a theocracy ruled over by Donald Trump.”

  2. Thanks. And the first thing I did, was “purchase” the kindle book. I look forward to reading it.

This divorce, if it ever happens, will be a divorce made in heaven. This “wicked” marriage has been bad for the Republican party and it has been bad for evangelical Christianity.

  3. I also got the book! I’ve been very lax in my book reading for quite some time but with Jerry’s book I plan to make an exception!

  4. I’ll tell you what it has done. The two have incorporated and colluded on two things…power and control. It’s a match made in hell. Both are experts at brainwashing the gullible, conning people out of millions of dollars, and casting fear, bigotry and hate and dividing people to their advantage.
Until the democrats and decent republicans stand up to the now trump Republican party and religion becomes much more secular or humanist, nothing will change and no divorce will happen. It’s like a marriage where the two are not compatible, but stay in it for the money.

    1. Totally agree Mary. We can hope for the divorce. I’m not optimistic.

    1. Thanks for sharing this Mary. Very much worth the read. It’s funny though, for all the declines in religious affiliation, they still seem to have an outsized influence on our politics/institutions. Maybe some day this will not be the case. Probably not in my lifetime. I wish it were now!

  5. Congratulations to your friend Jerry for completing this and for having the courage to publish it, in the face of no doubt a wave of condemnation.
I would change the the scenario slightly…. ‘ruling Donald Trump’.
He has never led, only reacted to those who put him there.

  6. Here’s a mystery.

Jerry’s website seems to have disappeared. The book seems to have disappeared from Amazon.

I sure hope there hasn’t been any back stabbing.

The copy on my Kindle is still there. I don’t know if it will stay there. Fortunately, I did finish reading it, and I thought it well written.

      1. Reminds me of what happened to Scottie and his “Toy Box” website. One day he got a notice from WordPress that his blog/website had been DELETED! They never provided a reason and even refunded ALL his money, even though his renewal date was just a couple of months away.

However, the fact that Jerry’s book is gone from Amazon makes it even more ominous …

    2. Hi Neil. I just got word from Jerry on what’s going on. It appears that he accepted a position as a ghost writer for a company that required him to basically scrub anything political he may have written. Thus, he had to disband his website and the E-book as well. I hope that clears it up for you. I thanked him for his contributions and left the door open for him to do it again for us, if he so chooses. I wished him good luck with the new endeavor. We’ll miss him here!

      1. WOW! That’s great for Jerry! Bad for us. I’m just thankful I grabbed his book before all this came down. (Although I still haven’t started it! My bad.)

And yes, he’ll be missed. He has a very talented way of putting words together — which is probably why he got hired!! 😉

      2. Indeed. He’s been doing it for about 4 decades I think. Lucky to have found him and have him contribute to us. Maybe he’ll be back some day. You never know
