Our friend Jerry at Grumpy’s Grumblings has another excellent post out today. Here is an excerpt, with a link at the end to continue reading. Thanks Jerry!

There was a time—not too long ago, I’m now ashamed to admit—when I frequently chanted this cheeky, “conservative” mantra: “If you’re a Republican before age 18, you have no heart. If you’re a Democrat past age 18, you have no brain.” I switched from Democrat to Republican shortly before my 20th birthday, so I suppose my brain was a bit late to develop. I switched back to Democrat at age 66, so I suppose I have no loyalties. I don’t; that is, not to a political party.

Anyway, back to the above adage. The point was, of course, that Democrats, being less mature in their reasoning, lead with their heart, their emotions. Democrats, Republicans often allege, fail to outgrow their empathetic side and move on to logically face hard adult realities.

Perhaps there was a time when there was a kernel of truth in that expression. In times past, one might have been able to make some kind of reasonable argument that the Republican Party was a home to logical, critical thinkers and that liberals were often overly motivated by emotions, particularly empathy. It was also reasonable for Democrats to argue that Republicans were often overly motivated by greedy self-interests.

But if that cliché implying Republicans’ superior reasoning might have contained some truth in days of old, it bears absolutely no resemblance to reality in the Trump era of the formerly grand Grand Old Party. In the Trump era, the adage might be properly amended as follows: “If you’re a Republican before or after age 18, you have no heart, no brain, and no concept of reality.”

In the Trump era, the adage might be properly amended as follows: “If you’re a Republican before or after age 18, you have no heart, no brain, and no concept of reality.”

This year’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) provides all the evidence any logical person should need to conclude that the Republican Party has abandoned all logic in favor of cultic madness.

    2. I’m not sure if Wix has that as an option. But thanks for the like.

      1. I tried Wix sometime back when WP changed their editing tool (which I hate!), but for me, it turned out to be just as confusing. I did go back into Wix today, however, and looked for a “like” feature or something similar, but was unable to find anything. Since you’re more familiar with the program, perhaps you’ll have better luck.

  2. Jeff, Jerry, CPAC was an extreme group in the Republican Party, so Republican presidents usually did not go to the conference. The seditious former president is the the first one to go as a seated president. Now, I presume they represent the Trump Party, which is indicative of how low the GOP has fallen. The Trump Party is built on a three legged foundation of conspiracy, fear and lies. The truth does not stand a snowball’s chance. Keith

  4. I read Grumpy’s post earlier today and he hits the nail squarely on the head. I hope there are more like him that will leave the party in disgust, for it is, in my book, no longer the GOP, but rather the POT — Party of Trump.

  5. Reblogged this on Filosofa's Word and commented:
Earlier today, I shared Keith’s post regarding the future of the Republican Party, aka GOP. Keith was once a Republican, but left the party some years ago to become an Independent. Another friend, Jerry (aka Grumpy of Grumpy’s Grumblings) was also a Republican, and he left the party during the reign of the former guy to become a Democrat. Grumpy has written a very enlightening post about his vision of the Republican Party today vs what it once was, that Jeff has re-blogged. Thanks to both you guys, Jeff & Jerry, for this post and for allowing me to share it!

  6. Sad how far the Republican party has fallen. They literally worship Trump — they apparent “loyalty” is actually a combination of cowardice and a cold calculation; many believe they can leverage Trumpism for their own ends or even be the “heir apparent” to the Trumputin fan base as in the case of Ted Chews. https://petersironwood.com/2021/02/28/freedom/

    1. It’s a spectacle for the ages. And instead of realizing it, they double down and go even further down the crackpot rabbit hole. The ship has sailed for today’s GOP. But, they have their evil ways to grab power-the old fashioned way: stealing it.
