Ralph Reed, president of the conservative evangelical Faith and Freedom Coalition, recently stated, “I think the 81 percent of the evangelical vote that Trump received four years ago is the floor. I don’t think it’s beyond the realm of possibility that he could end up in the mid-80s.”

Yes, even many of Trump’s basest Congressional grovelers have finally deciphered the writing on the doomed king’s wall and have begun to distance themselves from the Bumbler-in-Chief. Regarding voting blocs, only the evangelical faithful remain unshakably faithful to their replacement messiah. Like a tree planted by the water, they shall not be moved.
And why would they? Led by their messiah, they are in a war with “the deep state”; they’re battling the satanic forces of liberal pedophiles who sexually abuse children and drink their blood. So says QAnon, the anonymous, mysterious modern-day Isaiah whose daft proclamations many white evangelicals have elevated to canonical status. If QAnon declares it, so mote it be. Who needs evidence?
The More Likely Pedophile
While evidence of the bogus conspiracy theories QAnon peddles is sorely lacking, substantiation is abundant for evangelicals’ messiah being guilty of the very act he is said to be valiantly opposing.
Recall the following evidences of Donald Trump’s creepy relationships with young girls in general and with his own daughter, Ivanka, specifically, as cited in The Independent and elsewhere:
- Ivanka sitting on her dad’s lap, as both sit on a statue of parrots having sex
- Trump boasting, “Don’t you think my daughter’s hot? She’s hot, right?”
- Trump boasting, “You know who’s one of the great beauties of the world, according to everybody? And I helped create her? Ivanka. My daughter, Ivanka. She’s six feet tall. She’s got the best body.”
- Trump gushes, “I’ve said that if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.”
- When asked what he and Ivanka have in common, Trump replies, “Well I was going to say sex.”
- Trump states, “If I weren’t happily married and, you know, her father.”
- “Flight Logs Show Trump Was on [Jeffrey Epstein’s] ‘Lolita Express.’”
- When asked about the conviction of Ghislaine Maxwell, the confidant and ex-girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein, Trump’s only comment was, “I wish her well.”
- And, of course, remember that 26 women have accused Donald Trump of sexual misconduct, in many cases including rape.
Numerous direct, objective accounts reveal Donald Trump’s creepy obsession with young, often underage, women. But the Trump faithful—especially white evangelicals—dismiss those verifiable narratives, choosing instead to believe QAnon’s utterly unsubstantiated wacko yarns about a “deep state” running pedophile rings out of pizza restaurant basements.
A Divorced-from-Facts Faith
As I’ve noted in previous posts, evangelical congregants tend to be honest, hard-working folks. But, sadly, they also tend to be undereducated and gullible. They’ve subscribed to a worldview that divorces faith from evidence. By this, I refer to the perverted form of Christianity that has taken over most evangelical churches. It’s a top-down, authoritarian cult version of the faith in which congregants outsource their deep thinking and decision making to their leaders, many of whom have a vested interest in promoting Trumpist-style conspiracy theories.
I can only guess how Trump’s November 3rd defeat will impact his faithful white evangelical followers, but considering their cult-like devotion to him, their reactions likely will range from despondency to enraged riots. And QAnon—whoever he/she is—will happily fan the flames.
