Ralph Reed, president of the conservative evangelical Faith and Freedom Coalition, recently stated, “I think the 81 percent of the evangelical vote that Trump received four years ago is the floor. I don’t think it’s beyond the realm of possibility that he could end up in the mid-80s.”

No Moving the Truly Faithful

While polls have found every other demographic class leaping from the disaster-bound Trump train—and that includes white men in general—most white evangelicals are determined to hang on for the wild ride to the last stop—Obliteration Station.

While polls have found every other demographic class leaping from the disaster-bound Trump train—and that includes white men in general—most white evangelicals are determined to hang on for the wild ride to the last stop—Obliteration Station.

Yes, even many of Trump’s basest Congressional grovelers have finally deciphered the writing on the doomed king’s wall and have begun to distance themselves from the Bumbler-in-Chief. Regarding voting blocs, only the evangelical faithful remain unshakably faithful to their replacement messiah. Like a tree planted by the water, they shall not be moved.

And why would they? Led by their messiah, they are in a war with “the deep state”; they’re battling the satanic forces of liberal pedophiles who sexually abuse children and drink their blood. So says QAnon, the anonymous, mysterious modern-day Isaiah whose daft proclamations many white evangelicals have elevated to canonical status. If QAnon declares it, so mote it be. Who needs evidence?

The More Likely Pedophile

While evidence of the bogus conspiracy theories QAnon peddles is sorely lacking, substantiation is abundant for evangelicals’ messiah being guilty of the very act he is said to be valiantly opposing.

Recall the following evidences of Donald Trump’s creepy relationships with young girls in general and with his own daughter, Ivanka, specifically, as cited in The Independent and elsewhere:

  • Ivanka sitting on her dad’s lap, as both sit on a statue of parrots having sex
  • Trump boasting, “Don’t you think my daughter’s hot? She’s hot, right?”
  • Trump boasting, “You know who’s one of the great beauties of the world, according to everybody? And I helped create her? Ivanka. My daughter, Ivanka. She’s six feet tall. She’s got the best body.”
  • Trump gushes, “I’ve said that if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.”
  • When asked what he and Ivanka have in common, Trump replies, “Well I was going to say sex.”
  • Trump states, “If I weren’t happily married and, you know, her father.”
  • Flight Logs Show Trump Was on [Jeffrey Epstein’s] ‘Lolita Express.’”
  • When asked about the conviction of Ghislaine Maxwell, the confidant and ex-girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein, Trump’s only comment was, “I wish her well.”
  • And, of course, remember that 26 women have accused Donald Trump of sexual misconduct, in many cases including rape.

Numerous direct, objective accounts reveal Donald Trump’s creepy obsession with young, often underage, women. But the Trump faithful—especially white evangelicals—dismiss those verifiable narratives, choosing instead to believe QAnon’s utterly unsubstantiated wacko yarns about a “deep state” running pedophile rings out of pizza restaurant basements.

A Divorced-from-Facts Faith

As I’ve noted in previous posts, evangelical congregants tend to be honest, hard-working folks. But, sadly, they also tend to be undereducated and gullible. They’ve subscribed to a worldview that divorces faith from evidence. By this, I refer to the perverted form of Christianity that has taken over most evangelical churches. It’s a top-down, authoritarian cult version of the faith in which congregants outsource their deep thinking and decision making to their leaders, many of whom have a vested interest in promoting Trumpist-style conspiracy theories.

I can only guess how Trump’s November 3rd defeat will impact his faithful white evangelical followers, but considering their cult-like devotion to him, their reactions likely will range from despondency to enraged riots. And QAnon—whoever he/she is—will happily fan the flames.

It would seem, based on the evidence, that evangelical Christianity produces some of the world’s most gullible fools. Sigh. Good post, Jerry … thanks!

  2. You made my skin crawl with your bullet points. Trump is without doubt perverted. It’s remarkable how a religious group can forgive so many cases of the ten commandments being broken by one man who is meant to be a Messiah, and yet still be inflexible with it’s members. They are hypocritical and should never be allowed in a position where they make the laws of the US. The Church and State, never the twain shall meet.

    1. Hi David. You probably don’t realize how many of our evangels are guilty of the same crime. Just putting Reverend or Brother in front of the name doesn’t make them saints. I’m still praying hard that enough people will listen well to the Turds words and actually hear what he is saying for a change and then if they don’t want Biden they can write in Daffy Duck rather than vote the Turd back in. Hugs!

      1. You’re so right. I didn’t realise the Evangelicals have many guilty of the same crime. I’ve tended to concentrate on Trump and treated Evangelicals as the periphery and nothing else. But watching Pence and Pompeo I’m earning a lot.

  3. And for 25 bucks I will send you a picture of the Last Supper autographed by all the participants. Guillible… or at the least trying to tithe their way to a better life. Poor foolish souls. If not loved by God, they can rest assured they are loved the Swaggerts, Bakers, Robertsons and so on, who are enjoying the tax-free luxury provided by the ‘faithful’. Trump missed his calling. He could be living in a Crystal Cathedral instead of the White House and really have lst count on the money.

  5. And here we go Evangelicals. Thoughts for the Day:
1….“Yes, this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘Do not let the prophets and diviners among you deceive you. Do not listen to the dreams you encourage them to have. They are prophesying lies to you in my name. I have not sent them,’ declares the Lord” (Jeremiah 29:8-9). …Chew on that QAnon.
2….“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves” (Matthew 7:15)….You put one in the Whitehouse.
3……“But there were also false prophets in Israel, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will cleverly teach destructive heresies and even deny the Master who bought them. In this way, they will bring sudden destruction on themselves. Many will follow their evil teaching and shameful immorality. And because of these teachers, the way of truth will be slandered. In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction will not be delayed” (2 Peter 2:1-3)…..Looking at you preachers with your large houses, numerous cars and private aircraft.

    I rest my case…..
However: The Be Fair Rider…. I’m a Catholic who winces and groans at his co-religionists who say ‘Trump an’t so bad. He says he’s pro-life’ (This includes columnists in ‘respectable’ UK Catholic journals)..groan-groan-groan-(bad word)-groan.

  6. Jerry, I will repeat my comment on Jill’s post here. I repeat the observation, Donald Trump has done more damage to Christianity than any atheist ever could. When the means trash the Golden Rule and the teachings that guide the religion, and the purveyor is celebrated as sent from God, it defames the religion. While that percentage may go up, the number of people have declined, with a few leaving the church.

The strong arm tactics to push protestors out of the way for a photo shoot with a bible is was a grotesque misuse of power by the president. Gassing citizens is not in keeping with WWJD. Keith

  7. Jerry, great post. I assume, that with Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation all but a formality now, they’ve basically gotten everything they needed from the current president: a 6-3 conservative majority, and a fighting chance to do away with Roe v Wade. Really, that seemed to be their main line of reasoning all along. We’ll live with him…he’s the ‘chosen one’ even though he’s a flawed man. But if he gives us judges…OUR judges….we’ll support him. Well, mission accomplished.

    1. Early on, many of my Trump-supporting friends and relatives were in the “We’ll endure his many minuses in order to get the policies we’ve wanted for so long” camp. They plainly admitted to not liking him. But now, most of them have changed their tune–at least when speaking openly. Now he’s “a good man with a few minor character flaws.” That’s the way of cults. Prospective members might first be attracted by something the cult is doing that they perceive as noble and righteous. Then the brainwashing begins, and before long, their devotion is no longer to any cause, but entirely to the cult leader. For example, most of my Trump-supporting relatives claimed to have based their support on Trump’s pro-life / anti-abortion stance. But when I show them the plain fact that, historically, abortion numbers actually drop during Democratic presidencies, they have no answer; they simply re-state their devotion to Trump. It’s no longer about the cause; it’s about the cult leader, under whom, by the way, abortion numbers are rising. I’ve pointed that out to them as well. Doesn’t matter. “Dear Leader knows what he’s doing.”
Thirty to 40 percent of the nation’s voters have turned into zombies with whom we cannot reason based on objective facts.

      1. All true Jerry. I saw him at church with Hope Hicks the other day. I seriously thought I was going to throw-up. It really did remind me of a Jim Jones type of situation. Singing to him…praising him. All the while he stands there trying to act like he really believes anything they’re saying. What an absolute tragedy. I don’t know what they’ll do if or when he loses.
