Breaking News…..
Ladies and Gentleman, from the Oval Office, the current president of the United States:
“My fellow Americans, It’s been a tough five months for our country. Tonight, I’m coming to you with a heavy heart and a heavy mind. After weeks of study and deep soul searching, I’ve concluded that my administration’s response to the Covid pandemic has been inadequate. Presently, we’re losing the battle, with cases now approaching seventy-five thousand a day with deaths and hospitalizations on the rise exponentially. At the current rate, we will break the one hundred thousand mark in less than a few weeks. I’ve been told that we may even reach one million cases by the fall without drastic changes, with nearly a million deaths.
For that reason, I’m announcing the following changes that, according to my top health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci, will immediately begin to turn the page for our great country and return us to the kind of normalcy we Americans expect and deserve.
First, in conjunction with all of the governors of our great United States of America, beginning tomorrow at noon, we will be implementing a mandatory mask requirement in all public places throughout the country for no less than one month, perhaps longer if needed.
Second, I will be signing the Defense Authorization Act to increase our testing capability to up to twenty million per day and ensure that the states will have all the PPE they will need over the next 12 months.
Third, I am instructing our Department of Labor to begin massively hiring up to one million contract tracers to ensure that we can adequately stamp out any increases in infections that may incur over the next 12 months.
Fourth, also in conjunction with the governors, I will be calling for immediate funding of $200 billion for all of our fantastic schools, which shall include adequate safeguards and safety protocols to ensure our children can return to school, and give all of their parents and guardians the confidence they need to return to work, knowing they’ll be in good hands.
Finally, I’m also calling on an immediate infusion of at least $1 trillion to all state and local governments, to help plug the holes in their budgets, caused by the economic downturn and this deadly pandemic.
If we do all of these things and do them quickly and efficiently, I believe the United States of America will again become the world’s envy–not the laughingstock that we’ve become, thanks to my inaction and incompetence.
My fellow Americans, tonight, I offer you an apology for the past five months. Perhaps I was hit by a lightning bolt. Or, maybe the almighty lord intervened. Whatever the reason, I’m a changed man and vow to you that I will finally become the president you all deserve. From here on out, it’s all about you, not me.
God bless you, and God bless the United States of America.”
And then, I woke up.
If only we had a real president who would have done all of the above the past five months. If he had implemented these directives back in April, imagine where we’d be as a country right now. We’d be at least as well off as the European Union, and maybe some of the Asian countries like South Korea, Japan, or Taiwan.
But we do not have that luxury. We don’t have a real president–only someone who has the title. The responsibility and magnitude of the office continue to elude him. Every day, we’re subjected to more chaos, more incompetence, and more corruption than we’ve never seen.
And while I’d love to see my satirical dream come true, you and I know it’s not going to happen. We all know he doesn’t care about any of us out here in the real world. His bubble, his biological bubble, where everyone is tested, socially distances, and gives him top-notch medical care, are out of reach for 99.9% of us. But there he is, telling parents to send their kids to school and get back to work. Easy for him to say, huh?
The polls are all looking bleak for the current president. But I ask all of you to please ignore such news. Keep thinking the polls are much tighter than they’re showing. Otherwise, we risk complacency, and complacency is not an option for this election.
109 days from now. Count them all down. Mark each day off on your calendar and ask yourself what it would mean if he‘s reelected. What would it mean for our once great country and the democracy that’s currently hanging by a thread?
Because this time, even more so than 2016, it’s life and death, folks. Literally.

Your dream is a nice one … what did you eat before going to bed??? My own dream is a bit different than that one … in mine, Trump announces that both he and Mike Pence are stepping down, and the interim president until after the election will be Nancy Pelosi! Still, either way works for me.

LOL….I like your dream better!!!! Thanks for the reblog Jill!! Can our mental capabilities last another 108 days? I’m not so sure!!!!

I don’t know, Jeff … some days I swear I cannot take anymore, but then … I still wake up the next day, so I guess we are stronger and more resilient than we think we are. Sigh.

We WILL survive this Jill. But make no mistake, the next 100 plus days are going to be a real challenge, not to mention the days following the election…especially if HE loses.

Sigh. Yeah … actually the next 184 days, for I really dread what he will do between election day and inauguration day as much as I dread these next 100 or so. But, as you said … we will survive it, though we may age a decade or so in the next 6 months.

Jeff has a dream … a bit different than mine, but the end result is close. Thanks, Jeff!

If Trump had done that, he would be in a much better position for reelection.

Yes Neil, his approval ratings would jump, and he’d have a real shot at winning again. I really believe that. So, maybe I should not wish that my dream comes true!!!

If Trump were the kind of person who was capable of doing that — of showing real leadership — maybe we wouldn’t be so anxious to see him out.

Agreed. It did not have to be this way. He’s had so many opportunities to change the trajectory. He’s chosen to divide and conquer instead. And we’re paying dearly for that.

Tis a sweet dream indeed!
The fact is his poll #s are dropping like a rock and he has no chance in winning re-election. The tragedy will be the devastating toll from the pandemic, this will ensure Biden’s pyrrhic victory.

Careful, my friend … never say ‘never’ …

Absolutely, we must stay diligent at all times. Cross fingers, all signs point to Trump’s downfall, I don’t see how he can possibly recover from the pandemic and BLM movement highlighting his racism.
…. it’s over, I hear the fat man singing 🙂

Remember when Trump said – “The things they had in there were crazy,” Trump said of the voter protection and expansion proposals in the bill. “They had things—levels of voting that, if you ever agreed to it, you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again.” Shish! Might I have quoted a moment of Trump honesty? Admission that fair and equal access to voting by all Americans would spell disaster for greedy white conservatives? Sigh.

They’ve know this for years my friend, thus the massive voter suppression. They will NOT moderate their message to try and win new voters. They’ll cheat, lie, and suppress to keep and obtain power. This is a danger to our democracy and Trump has hijacked it for his own sociopathic/narcissistic tendencies. We’re in perilous times my friend.

Jeff, it is a wonderful dream, which we hope will become a reality. I crave a boringly competent, decent, welcoming and truthful president. One who won’t lie to our faces and won’t belittle those who ask questions. Keith

PS – A minister in Raleigh named John Pavlovitz writes a very thoughtful blog. Here is his latest post, which speaks for itself.

Yes, I’ve read his stuff Keith. Very insightful. I echo his sentiments. As a lifelong Democrat, I know deep in my heart that I’d never vote for a Democratic ‘Trump.’ No way. I’d vote third-party or write someone in.

Keith, I think we have that guy running against him. Biden, hopefully will instill those much needed traits to the White House. He may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but he’s what we need at this time in our history. Let’s hope he rises to the occasion!!!

Jeff, I agree. My previous post picks up on an important line Biden says in a commercial. “I will be responsible for my actions and won’t blame others.” That is a key differentiator between Biden and Trump. Keith

Yes, I just heard a short snippet from Trump’s interview with Chris Wallace. The man is still in deep denial about the pandemic and he accepts NO responsibility. None. He’s incapable

I will adhere to the words of Michael Moore and remain wary of getting overconfident about an easy Trump loss in the election. Treat the matter as a “no hold barred” struggle to the very end.

Absolutely. Ignore these polls. All of them. There can’t be over confidence in this election. Look where it got us in 2016.
