Lock HER Up?

Posted by

So in the middle of being on the cusp of war, impeachment, and God knows what else, the Trump administration’s Justice Department has meekly announced that their investigation into Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation has found the following: NOTHING.

Oh, you didn’t hear the news? Buried under all the other scandals of the Trump regime, the findings barely got a mention by the mainstream media. And why would it? It pales in comparison to all of the other misdeeds of this administration. But the fact the Justice Department didn’t even have a press conference speaks volumes about where we are in the political environment in Washington, D.C.

For those of you who didn’t even know about this investigation into the Clinton’s, you’re not alone. This inquiry is the one that Attorney General Bill Barr, who also moonlights as Trump’s lawyer (sarcasm alert) , started several months ago. And by the way, it wasn’t because there was ample reason to open the investigation. He did it to appease the president. He wanted his political rival investigated, and damn it, Barr decided that was a splendid idea. Isn’t that what all previous attorney generals have done?

The answer to that rhetorical question is an emphatic no, of course. This is not the real world. This is the beautiful reality TV world of Donald J. Trump. Nothing is done according to norms and precedence. What would have once been unheard of in previous administrations, is now considered perfectly normal by one political party. ‘Privately,’ we’re told, Republicans are ‘deeply’ concerned. Really? I’d love to be in on some of those private conversations. I wish we had some recordings.

How many more investigations into the Clinton’s are we going to have? Since the early 1990s, we’ve seen Republicans go after them with a vengeance rarely seen in politics. And other than a bogus impeachment for lying about a consensual affair, nothing has come out of ANY of them.

What’s even more pathetic is that just the other night in Toledo, Ohio, Trump was at it again at one of his cult rallies, railing on Hillary and saying she ought to be in jail. Most of the media doesn’t even give it a mention. For the millionth time, this is the stuff commonly seen in banana republics. If we’re not there yet, we’re perilously close.

But even out of all of this madness, sometimes karma strikes and justice is served. The once honorable Michael Flynn, Trump’s National Security Advisor for a second, and former United States Army Lieutenant General is now awaiting sentencing for lying to the FBI and misrepresenting his work advancing the interests of the Turkish government. Mr. “lock her up” is now the one that’s going to be locked up. I can’t think of a guy more worthy of a prison sentence.

Who can forget Flynn during the 2016 campaign, leading a chorus of hatred and boos directed at Mrs. Clinton? He was one of many, of course, but his fall from grace was steep and fast. I saw the “lock her up” video the other night, which I’ve seen countless times before. It still makes my skin crawl.

The irony for Mr. Flynn is the fact that it wasn’t long ago that Robert Mueller’s prosecutor’s had recommended a sentence of zero months, based on his cooperation in the Russian election interference probe. He initially pleaded guilty to the charges and was one of the first Trump campaign advisors to work with Mueller’s team actively.

But, he squandered all the goodwill away. The judge in his case was having none of the prosecutor’s request to go easy on Flynn. U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan, in a December 18, 2018 sentencing hearing blasted Flynn’s attorneys for appearing to play down his offenses. Sullivan told Flynn, “Arguably, you sold your country out.” Ouch. It all went downhill after that. He changed attorneys, who tried to claim Flynn was entrapped into pleading guilty. It didn’t work.

Flynn also stopped cooperating in the trial of his former business partner, who was on trial for illegally lobbying for Turkey. The partner, Bijan Rafiekian, was convicted, but a judge threw it out because of “insufficient” evidence.

Flynn’s actions surrounding his former business partner were the foundation for prosecutors withdrawing their request for leniency toward Flynn. They now are recommending Flynn serve up to six months in prison. His sentencing hearing is set for January 28. My how the mighty have fallen.

I’m sure the president of the United States will soon apologize for continuing to go after his last political rival. Perhaps a helicopter press conference? Maybe Bill Barr will do one with him. Both are such exceptional upstanding individuals, are they not?

How much more should Hillary Clinton have to endure? Not one investigation has found her guilty of anything. She’s nothing but a punching bag for the current president. Right-wing media plays right along in these disgusting attacks. After all, talk show windbag Rush Limbaugh used to suggest she was responsible for one-time aid Vince Foster’s death, which was ruled a suicide. He thought nothing of calling daughter Chelsea ugly. It’s one big joke for these people.

But the real joke this January 28 will be on Michael Flynn. Hopefully, the judge listens to prosecutors and gives him up to six months. I wish it would be even more. But, knowing he’s likely to serve time while Hillary Clinton remains a private citizen, living her life as she sees fit, is beyond satisfying.

Of course, Trump could pardon Flynn. It certainly wouldn’t surprise anyone. For now, though, it looks like he’s going to spend some time in the slammer. “Lock her up,” Michael Flynn? Sometimes people do get what they deserve. We can only hope that the current president suffers the same fate.

  1. Jeff, the Foundation took a lot of flak, but received good rankings from the non-profit rating agencies. On the flip side, is another issue that did not get much press. The Trump Foundation was ruled to be a self-dealing enterprise and not a charitable foundation about fifteen months ago. The judge ordered Trump to repay $2 million to the Foundation and ordered a group of trustees that could not be named Trump to distribute the funds and dissolve the Foundation. Your readers should Google this and read for themselves from reputable sources. Keith

    1. True Keith. That story, as many do, fly under the radar. There’s so much corruption and lying with this crowd, it’s hard to even keep up. But, yes, I believe his children were forced to take a class of some sort on how to operate a charity properly. You just can’t make this stuff up. His rabid followers would just pass it off as no big deal. It IS a big deal though.

  2. I saw this a week or two ago, and meant to do a post about it, but then other things invaded my space, such as an assassination, a near-war, a plane shot down, etc., and frankly I forgot about it, just like the rest of the public! So, I thank you for this excellent post, which I shall re-blog soon. I would only disagree with you on one point, when you say “I can’t think of a guy more worthy of a prison sentence” in reference to Flynn, for while Flynn IS worthy of a prison sentence, I can think of several even more worthy. Starting, of course, with the Oaf in the Oval Office, and a number of his lying sycophants, such as Bill Barr himself.

I saw this a week or so ago and meant to write about it, but with everything that’s happened in the past 10 days, it fell off my radar. Our friend Jeff, however, has a better radar tracking system than I do, and he has written an excellent, passionate piece about Trump’s near-constant attempts to demonize Hillary Clinton, who has once again been found innocent of any wrongdoing. Thanks Jeff!

  4. You are correct, technically and legally Bill & Hillary Clinton did nothing wrong with their Clinton Foundation. Yet they’re corrupt as hell if you analyse their intent. Hillary is a very astute attorney and knows how to game the system without getting busted.
All non-profit charities must disclose their finances as public record. Clinton Foundation has one of the worst records bordering on fraud. It’s pure pay for play, Saudi, Chinese and Russian oligarchs contributed 100s of millions, do you really believe they expected nothing in return?

“Clinton’s defenders like to point out that neither she nor her husband draw a salary from their foundation. But that’s a technicality.
The Clintons extract millions of dollars in travel expenditures, including luxurious airplane accommodations and hotel suites, from their purported do-gooder outfit. They exploit the foundation as a patronage mill, arranging for it to hire their loyalists at extravagant six-figure salaries. Charity Navigator, the Yelp of non-profits, doesn’t bother to issue a rating for the Clinton foundation due to the pathetically low portion of money ($9 million out of $140 million in 2013) that makes its way to someone who needs it.”
“It seems like the Clinton Foundation operates as a slush fund for the Clintons,” says Bill Allison of the Sunlight Foundation, a government watchdog group.
As a measure of how institutionally bankrupt American politics is, this is all technically legal. But that doesn’t mean it’s not corrupt.
Public relations experts caution politicians like the Clintons that the appearance of impropriety is almost as bad as its actuality. If it looks bad, it will hurt you with the polls. True, but that’s not really the point.
The point is: access is corruption.”

I’m sure you realize one of the primary reasons she lost in 2016 was b/c the public simply did not trust her, and felt she was a warmongering Washington establishment insider who’s in it for personal gain.
There’s also plenty of nepotism and cronyism behind the scenes when one curries political favors for certain “benefits”.
Sweetheart book deals, corporate lecture circuit and cushy do-nothing jobs for friends and family are all part of the deal. Technically it’s not illegal but shady as hell. Google “Chelsea Clinton Jobs” and it’s farcical how much the girl made with zero experience and knowledge…. Chelsea is quite exceptional b/c of her last name.
Hunter Biden is no exception. It must be nice being related to Washington’s elite.

Now Trump is no better, probably even more corrupt if that’s possible… he simply not savvy enough to play the game as well as the Kennedys, Bushes, Clintons, Obamas… that’s the real reason why insider elites want to impeach him, Trump is an outsider who’s upsetting the status quo/ invading their turf. It’s the dog eat dog world of ugly American politics.

  5. I do not believe in imprisonment, it is a tired old idea that punishment stops people from commiting crimes. That is about as useless as religion causes people to do good.
But having said that, given that prisons do exist, Flynn deserves at least 6 if not 60 years, not just 6 months. With time off for good behaviour he might do 40 days if he is unlucky. That is a walk standing on his head. Club Med would be worse.
As for Hillary Clinton (I happen to own a brood mare/ex race horse called Halory Clanton, no relation), she may be better at hiding her crimes and misdemeanours than Trump is (as 1EarthUnited intimated), but at least she isn’t out to destroy they world. Trump won’t be happy until he is the last human on Earth, which will not do him much good as he will not be able to buy a Big Mac for all the money in the world. P,us he will have no one to wipe his ass for him…
